Best Books I've Read So Far

What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky: Stories, Lesley Nneka Arimah, InToriLex
What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky: Stories by Lesley Nneka Arimah is an amazing short story collection I absolutely loved. Every single story was great, this is the one of the few short story collections I've rated five stars. This author uses magical realism and fantasy to describe real life trauma. **My Review**
The Power, Naomi Alderman, InToriLex
The Power by Naomi Alderman has some kind of power over me, because I'm still thinking about it and I read it in January. This book imagines a world where women develop super powers and the fallout all over the world from that. This made me think harder about gender relations and how our civilization was developed. I was memorable and powerful. **My Review**
Sing, Unburied, Sing, Jesmyn Ward ,InToriLex
Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward is a rumination on family, racism and addiction. I loved this book and found myself laughing, crying and reflecting while reading. The writing and storytelling was spectacular. **My Review **
Heart Berries: A Memoir, Terese Marie Mailhot, InToriLex
Heart Berries: A Memoir by Terese Marie Mailhot is enlightening, heartbreaking and powerful non-fiction. This Native American author has found a way to succinct describe trauma and mental illness.  I can't recommend this book enough. **My Review**

Best Sequel I've Read

Saga, Vol. 8 (Saga #8), Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples, InToriLex
Saga, Vol. 8 (Saga #8) by Brian K. Vaughan (Artist), Fiona Staples (Illustrator) is a great continuation of the series. This comic has so much diversity, sci-fi, humor and world building. It has something for everyone and is my favorite ongoing comic out right now.  I haven't read many sequels this year but need to.**My Review for the Series Beginning**

New Release Haven't Read But Want To

Red Clocks, Leni Zumas, InToriLex
Red Clocks by Leni Zumas is book I should have read by now and have had for months. It's a dystopia where abortion is illegal and follows five women navigating this harsh reality. I'm hoping to finally get to it sooner then later. It was one of my 18 Must Read 2018 Releases.

Most Anticipated Release for 2nd Half of 2018

My Sister, the Serial Killer, Oyinkan Braithwaite, InToriLex
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite will be released on November 20, 2018 which feels very far away. This is a book about a Nigerian woman who's younger sister kills her boyfriends. I am intrigued and it has great early ratings.
Vengeful (The Villains #2) by V.E. Schwab is the sequel to Vicious, an adult fantasy I absolutely loved. I've been trying to get an ARC of it with no success, but I am patiently waiting for it to be released on September 25, 2018. I read Vicious before I had a blog so no review, but I'm considering a re-read.

Biggest Disappointment

 LIFEL1K3, Jay Kristoff, InToriLex
LIFEL1K3 (Lifelike #1) by Jay Kristoff was a huge disappointment for me. I loved Nevernight and the Illuminae Chronicles so I picked this up with high expectations. The concept of a robot fighting strong willed protagonist in a Mad Max setting could have been really great, but it just wasn't. **My Review**
The Pisces, Melissa Broder, InToriLex
The Pisces by Melissa Broder was on many best new releases list for 2018 and also blurbed by Roxane Gay who I stan for. This book didn't meet my expectation and also left me feeling like I just didn't get it. It's supposed to be a funny satire with a unlikeable main character but I didn't find anything funny. The book cover is gorgeous but it's a trap.**My Review**

Biggest Surprise

Her Body and Other Parties, Carmen Maria Machado, InToriLex
Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado has been recommended to me and so I was really worried it would not live up to the hype. It exceeded my expectations and is a great collection focused on feminist themes with great LGTBQA rep. **My Review**

Favorite New Author

What It Means When a Man Falls from the Sky: Stories, Lesley Nneka Arimah, InToriLex
I will buy anything Lesley Nneka Arimah writes, it was that good and I'm excited for what's next.

New Fictional Crush

I don't  have an answer for this because I don't usually crush on book characters.

Newest Favorite Character

An Unkindness of Ghosts, Rivers Solomon, InToriLex
An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon is speculative sci-fi that everyone should read. I almost added it to the best books I've read this year. Aster is a character who is smart. low key autistic and gender non-conforming. This is a underrated book that should be on your TBR. **My Review**

Book That Made Me Cry

Girls Burn Brighter, Shobha Rao, InToriLex
Girls Burn Brighter by Shobha Rao is a story about two friends drawn to each other by love enduring and surviving horrible circumstances. I not only cried, I ugly snot nosed cried because my heart was broken more then a few times. **My Review**

Book That Made Me Happy

everyone's a aliebn when ur a aliebn too, Jomny Sun, InToriLex
everyone's a aliebn when ur a aliebn too by Jomny Sun is a great short comic that will make you reflect on what it means to be human. I picked this up from the library on a whim and was so happy I did.  It is filled with great musings and humor. **My Review**

Favorite Book To TV Adaptation

I don't watch many TV's or movie adaptations. But I recently binged the TV show The Sinner while I was sick and loved it. It was full of suspense, had a interesting format and kept me engaged. It's an adaptation of The Sinner by Petra Hammesfahr, John Brownjohn (translator) which I sadly haven't read yet.

Books I Need To Read Before the End of the Year

There are so many, but these are the ones I will kick myself if I don't get to, they are all sequels.

Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe #2), Neal Shusterman, InToriLex
Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe #2) by Neal Shusterman has recieved a number of great reviews and I can't wait to learn more about this artificial intelligent being that leads society in this world.  **Scythe (Arc of a Scythe #1) Review**
Waking Gods (Themis Files #2), Sylvain Neuvel, InToriLex
Waking Gods (Themis Files #2) by Sylvain Neuvel is a book I know I'm going to love. Sleeping Giants was a great sci-fi read, the mystery surrounding giant alien parts around the globe is still looming in my mind. **Sleeping Giants (Themis Files #1) Review**

Iron Gold (Red Rising Saga #4), Pierce Brown, InToriLex
Iron Gold (Red Rising Saga #4) by Pierce Brown is going to be good because Pierce Brown has written an excellent sc-fi book full of violence, brutality and political intrigue. I was sent an ARC by the publisher because I loved it so much on my netgalley review. I cannot wait to devour this book. **Red Rising (Red Rising Saga #1) Review**

I won't tag anyone because we're already past the mid point of the year now.  I still wanted to participate because my June and July reading and blogging has been off.

Let me know if you read any of these books in the comments below!
